Safety first

Capsaicin is a well-studied topical counterirritant and a culinary pungent. It burns mucosa and eyes, can trigger severe pain on broken skin, and high-concentration patches are clinic products — not kitchen powder.

Tradition vs trials

Traditional record. New World spice adopted into Western counterirritant pharmacy and into some Ayurvedic pungent formulas.

Trial literature. Topical capsaicin (low-percent creams and high-percent clinic patches) has human neuropathic-pain data. Oral 'thermogenic' capsules are a weaker, more irritating evidence base.

Children. Culinary food in family meals is one thing; topical medicinal capsaicin is not for children unless a clinician directs otherwise.
