Tinnitus (adjunct)

Subjective tinnitus after noise, age, or ototoxins is common. Pulsatile tinnitus is vascular until the exam says otherwise. Unilateral tinnitus with asymmetric hearing is imaging. EGb 761 has mixed, mostly negative-to-small tinnitus trials. Do not stack ginkgo onto DAPT after a stent because they read a forum.

Primary plants

    Ginkgo biloba

EGb 761 has mixed human tinnitus trials — often unimpressive. Bleeding is the practical issue.

Typical. EGb 761-type 120–240 mg/day if used at all. Not roasted seed.

Safety. Bleed, surgery hold, rare seizure reports. Pharmacy if antiplatelet/anticoagulant.

Supportive plants2
  • Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)

If the leftover is the anxiety/insomnia loop around the sound.

    Typical. Leaf tea/extract evening.

    Safety. Clean at tea dose.

  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

    Lavandula angustifolia

Same loop: anxiety amplifying the ringing. Oral oil is an anxiety plant, not an ear drug.

Typical. Silexan-type 80–160 mg if anxiety leads.

Safety. Do not ingest DIY essential oil.

Clinical notes

  • Pulsatile, unilateral, or focal-neuro tinnitus is not a leaf extract.

When this is not enough

  • Pulsatile tinnitus, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, focal neuro, ototoxic chemo without audiology, asymmetric hearing
