Aphthous ulcers

Painful shallow oral ulcers in an otherwise well person. DGL as a rinse/paste is the licorice form that belongs here — whole-root swallowed is a mineralocorticoid problem. Marshmallow coats. Recurrent crops with genital ulcers or uveitis is a different disease. Neutropenic mouth ulcers are oncology.

    DGL as a rinse/paste is the oral-ulcer tradition — not whole-root glycyrrhizin swallowed qid.

    Typical. DGL powder as a paste or rinse; spit. Do not use whole-root tea as a mouthwash substitute for DGL.

    Safety. Whole root: HTN, hypokalemia. Confirm DGL.

  • Neutropenia, suspected Behçet, persistent ulcer >2 weeks, weight loss, genital ulcers, fever
