Ask Assistant about thisVelvet bean (Mucuna pruriens) seed contains L-DOPA. Small PD trials exist. That does not make it an OTC replacement for licensed levodopa/carbidopa, and combining it with a MAO-B inhibitor or disrupting an existing regimen is how people get dyskinesia or crisis. Ginkgo is a bleeding file, not a PD drug. This page exists so you do not recommend the forum protocol.

Seed is an L-DOPA source with small PD trials. Restricted. Neurology-only if ever used — not a catalog DIY.
Typical. Not a catalog self-treatment range. Licensed levodopa products exist for a reason.
Safety. Restricted. Do not combine unsupervised with carbidopa/levodopa, MAO-B inhibitors, or antipsychotics. Pod hairs irritate. Pregnancy avoid.
Supportive plants2
GinkgoHuman dataGinkgo bilobaSometimes appears in 'neuro' stacks. Bleeding. Not a PD disease-modifier.
Typical. If they are already on it for something else, flag the bleed risk next to fall risk.
Safety. Bleed, surgery hold.
AshwagandhaHuman dataWithania somniferaStress-sleep leftover. Can affect thyroid. Not a dopamine agonist.
Typical. Extract 300–600 mg if the leftover is stress — with the neurologist in the loop.
Safety. Pregnancy, thyroid, DILI.
Clinical notes
- Sudden 'off,' NMS-like rigidity after stopping dopaminergic drugs, or psychosis is neurology/ED — not more Mucuna.
When this is not enough
- New focal neuro, fall with head strike, psychosis, someone stopping Sinemet for a seed powder
